The following are some useful resources for those looking into any home improvement/renovation project.
Useful Information
| The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) protects consumers by licensing and regulating California’s construction industry. You can find educational materials about hiring contractors and the construction process. You can also check the status of a contractor’s license, find other important Contractors License Law information and file a complaint. | |
| The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) is the only independent national association dedicated solely to the remodeling industry. NARI’s focus is on professional conduct, continuing education and training, and fair and ethical treatment within the industry. | |
| The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services coordinates overall state agency response to major disasters in support of local government. Also, OES is the “grantee” for federal disaster assistance, principally from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and assists local governments and other state agencies in developing their own emergency preparedness and response plans. | |
| The Community Action Plan for Seismic Safety (CAPSS) project was launched because San Francisco city leaders are deeply concerned about reducing earthquake risk before the next major earthquake strikes. The purpose of the CAPSS project was to provide the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection a plan of action to reduce earthquake risks. | |
| The Earthquake and Hazards Program of the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) is committed to creating a more disaster resistant Bay Area by working with local governments, earthquake professionals, businesses, and residents on hazard mitigation and long-term disaster recovery planning. | |
| The California Geological Survey (CGS) is dedicated to the fulfillment of its mission to provide scientific products and services about the state’s geology, seismology and mineral resources that affect the health, safety, and business interests of the people of California. You can find maps of earthquake hazards on their web site. | |
| Since its founding in 1971, Heritage has built on its activist underpinnings and has dedicated itself to citywide advocacy and education. This includes special programs, regularly-scheduled tours and rental of the Haas-Lilienthal House and grounds (property donated to Heritage in 1973). |
